Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Set in the world created by the movies, as per the vision of James Cameron, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora puts you in the shoes of the Na’vi themselves. You play as someone who is kidnapped by the human militaristic corp (known as the RDA) and you’ve been trained by them and worked with them until you are free.
What comes next is a journey of self-discovery, reconnecting with your Na’vi heritage, and protecting Pandora from RDA with the help of traditional weapons like bow and arrow as well as assault rifles and shotguns.
As you can expect from the trailer, you can explore the world and see every wondrous thing that Pandora has to offer. These alien regions are beautiful to look at but also packed with unprecedented dangers. As you navigate, you get a chance to craft gear and upgrade your skills/weapons as per your playstyle. Fly across the skies with your Ikran and experience aerial combat like never seen before.
If you’ve watched the movies and felt like – damn, I wish I could really experience this world – this new PS5 game is for you and it’s releasing in early December 2023.
Arashi: Castles of Sin – Final Cut
Assassins in a feudal Japan theme? Sign me up! In Arashi: Castles of Sin, a VR game, you play as Kenshire and your goal is to defeat the Six Oni of Iga, a bandit group. On some occasions, you must infiltrate locations stealthily, and in some scenarios, you must use your weapons, tools and techniques to hunt down foes.
You’re not alone in this journey – your cousin Ayane gives you guidance back at base and you also have a loyal companion – a wolf named Haru to help you out. Check out the trailer here and if you own any of these VR devices (OpenXR, Oculus Rift S, Meta Quest 2, Index or Vive), you can dive into this game starting from December as well.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
This is a must-play if you are a fan of the LOTR series. Return to Moria is a survival crafting title, set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, the iconic fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
You play as a Dwarf and get to do mining, smithing, carving and base building with your Dwarven friends. However, know that there are always some dangers lurking in the world of LOTR. As you venture out on your expeditions, you must be aware of any threats that might be ready to pounce on you – such as orcs, trolls and more.
This is one of those games that is easy to lose hours of your day in, and especially for fans, there’s a coop multiplayer option that can be used for extra fun. Ready to dive in? Get ready for an adventure to reclaim the Dwarves’ forgotten kingdom in the Mines of Moria.
Arizona Sunshine 2
There was a gap of an apocalyptic-zombie-slasher-action game in this list but Arizona Sunshine 2 fills that gap and how! This is a VR game for those who like to go in all guns blazing (there are machetes and flamethrowers too). With a trusted companion named Buddy, you can take on the world – one zombie at a time.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
The Warhammer 40K franchise is still going strong with new content being released very often. This one is an isometric cRPG set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
In this title, you can explore the Koronus Expanse filled with dangerous creatures as well as enemies, make game-changing decisions and go through with their consequences, gather your team of heroes, and experience turn-based tactical combat. Make use of the cover, your own abilities, your companions’ powers, and make your way to victory.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a rule/sourcebook for the Warhammer 40K miniature wargame by Games Workshop and this is a video game adaptation of the same. Do note that this has mature content and themes, so tread wisely!
Smalland: Survive the Wilds
Another survival game in this list is Smalland: Survive the Wilds, which might remind you of Grounded. You explore the world left behind by giants and build, craft, and do everything it takes to reclaim it.
Being a small protagonist yourself, everything will seem gigantic – puddles will look like lakes, mushrooms will look like trees, and bugs will look like boss fights. You can tame various critters to cover long distances, discover strange ruins or even build together with friends in multiplayer mode.
There’s a lot to conquer in this game, and if you’re up for all the surviving you’ve got to do, this is a new PS5 game releasing in December 2023 that you must try out.
Bulletstorm VR
VR players who are also fans of first-person shooter games get another new addition to their library in the form of Bulletstorm VR. If you like high-octane fights with power kicks, melee combos, explosives, charged shots, slides and want to unleash a literal bulletstorm, this game is worth trying out. There’s loads to shoot and destroy – enemies (armored or otherwise), mutated creatures, or even huge monsters.
Update: Bulletstorm VR has been delayed to January 18, 2024.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising brings returning content from the first GBVS game but also ramps up the awesome factor by adding new playable characters, stages, gameplay mechanics, mini-games as well as updated graphics.
Fans of the fighting game genre who want to take a break from the 3D graphics of Mortal Kombat 1 or Street Fighter 6 can give this game a shot! And if you want to take a break from the fighting aspect for a while, then Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has multiple other elements that can keep you engaged. You’ll find various obstacle courses and survival games in the party mode where you can compete with other players online.
