Activision Ban Appeal Steps Explained
Here’s what to do to potentially unban your Activision account by submitting a ban appeal.
Playing COD games like Warzone or Modern Warfare with your friends but suddenly ended up getting your account banned? This has happened to quite a lot of players. You can submit a support ticket to appeal an account penalty, but whether the ban is overturned or not, depends on Activision’s decision.
In case you have cheated in-game previously or actively have cheats enabled, you will be banned. Not just this, there are lots more actions that can have repercussions in games, especially those with multiplayer aspects:
- Spoofing
- Circumventing Security
- Use of Unauthorized Software for Cheating/Modding/Hacking
- Pirated Content
- Unsupported Peripheral Devices and Applications
- Boosting
- Glitching
- Griefing
- Offensive Behavior
- Improperly Obtained Downloadable/Unlockable Content
- Decompiling or Reverse Engineering of Game Data
- Malicious Reporting
You can read about all of these offenses in detail on the support page here.
Types of Penalties
There are multiple tiers of penalties that you may get:
Account under Review is when a player is suspected of violating a policy and the account gets put under review for checks. If you are found to be innocent, you will get your account you will be part of normal matchmaking. On the other hand, if you are found guilty, you may get a temporary or permanent suspension.
There’s also a Minor Offense which, as Activision mentions, is “one in which no quantifiable damage has been done to another player or the game community at large.”
Lastly, an Extreme Offense is when the player has organized more players to commit additional similar offenses, and this is the highest penalty there is.
How long do Activision Suspensions Last?
Temporary suspensions can last anything from 48 hours, 2 weeks, or even more than that, depending on how severe the issue is.
Permanent suspensions are, well, permanent and they may also span across titles (past, present, and future) from the COD franchise. If the violation level was high, you might not even be able to purchase Call of Duty games from that account. It will also be implemented across all devices that are linked to the account.
How to Appeal Activision Ban?
Now, in case you have been mistakenly banned in a ban wave and have not violated any policies, you can follow the steps mentioned in this guide to potentially get your account back.
- Head to the official Activision ban appeal link.
- Log into your account.
- If a pop-up appears, carefully read it and then click on Continue.
- A form will show up – check your account details such as email address, Activision ID, and if you are eligible for appeal, you will see it right there.
There are a few things to keep in mind before submitting an appeal. In case your account is confirmed to be permabanned for a violation of Activision’s Security and Enforcement Policy, then it will not be overturned unless they identify that the “infraction was due to unauthorized activity on your Activision account.”
Also, keep in mind that support will send you a status of your appeal only after their investigation is complete, and multiple submissions or appeals will not be considered. The decision they provide after investigating will be final.
How to Recover Account if it was Hacked?
If you believe that your account was hacked, here’s the support link for Activision account recovery that will help you out. Submit your account details, and if your request is valid, Support will work to get you back to your games with your original progress, stats, and content. Note that requests can take up to 24 hours to process and you will receive an email when the request is complete.
