How Long Do Steam Refunds Take?
Check out the time period that you need to wait till you get your money back from Steam.
If you’ve purchased a game, played it for less than 2 hours and didn’t like it, you can request a refund. The support page mentions that even if you fall outside of the refund rules, there’s a chance you may get a refund if the reason is accepted by Steam. Now, those who have already submitted a request and are awaiting a response are wondering – how long do Steam Refunds take to approve? What to do if you can’t find your refund money? Here’s what you need to know.
How long do Steam Refunds take?
Steam refund requests can take an hour or two to get approved and you will get a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. According to community responses, most end up getting their refund in 24 hours and rarely goes to the whole 7 day-wait (unless there’s an issue). So if you are eligible, Steam refunds should be quite fast.
The refund can be obtained in the Steam Wallet funds or via the same method that you used to buy the product. In case Steam is not able to give you a refund via your original payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited with the full amount.
Note that some payment methods available through Steam in your country may not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method. Check here for the full list before requesting a refund.
Refund approved but not received money back – Where is my refund?
Note that approved refunds can take up to 7-10 days to show up in your account and if you’ve used an international payment method, then it may take longer so you might need to wait a bit more.
Keep in mind that if your refund hasn’t appeared after 7 days, make sure to contact your bank directly and ask about pending refunds on your account.
Here’s what Steam has to say:
[bs-quote quote=”When a refund request is approved within 24 hours of the purchase, the original transaction is cancelled and the charge drops off your bank statement. In this case, you will not see a credit on your account. This process can take up to 10 days – wait time for international payment methods may vary.” style=”default” align=”center” color=”” author_name=”” author_job=”” author_avatar=”” author_link=””][/bs-quote]
Can’t find my refund
- Steam suggests checking your recent purchase history because there’s a chance you may have used the refunded amount to buy something else on Steam.
- Another thing to note is that the response from Support could be slightly slower during sales or if support is busy at that moment.
The automated process of refunds goes from your first request > the system initiates the process and gives you some time (about 1 hour) to cancel the refund in case you change your mind > if approved, you will get a notification that your refund has been accepted. Next, the game will get disabled in your library and after 24 hours, you will be sent the refunded money. You can uninstall the game after this is done.
