Discord Notifications Not Working? Try These Fixes
Unable to get notifications on Discord? Here’s how you can fix it.
If you’re in a lot of active servers and your Discord notifications are not working, you will miss out on a lot! There can be a few reasons why this is happening and this guide has all the crucial troubleshooting steps to fix this issue on desktop and mobile.
Discord Notifications Not Working Fixes
Users who are not receiving Discord notifications of server messages or DMs can try the steps given below. However, let’s get the more generic fixes out of the way first:
- Restart Discord: If it’s a temporary glitch, a restart may solve the problem.
- Update Discord: Make sure you’re running the latest version of Discord, because if there was a known bug in the previous patch, it should be resolved in the updated app version.
Check your Discord Settings
Make sure notification toggles are enabled within the Discord app itself. On Desktop, go to User Settings > Notifications and ensure “Enable Desktop Notifications” is on.
You can also toggle on the option to ‘Enable same-channel message notifications’ which will play a unique sound when there’s a new message in the channel you’re currently reading. This way, you won’t miss out on anything.
Unmute Servers/Users
If you’re not getting notifications for specific servers or users, you might have muted them previously. Right-click the server or user you want notifications from and unmute them.
Check your Device Settings
On both desktop and mobile, confirm that Discord has permission to show notifications. Type ‘Notifications’ on the Search bar on PC and you can check whether you have given appropriate permissions to Discord or not. Similarly, these settings can be found on your mobile device as well.
Background App Refresh (Mobile)
On Android, ensure Discord is allowed to run in the background. Go to App Info > Mobile data and enable “Allow background data usage” and “Allow data usage while Data saver is on”.
Do Not Disturb Mode
If you’ve enabled the Do Not Disturb mode on Discord, you will not get any notifications on PC. Change your status via your profile pic at the bottom left and check if Discord notifications are working now or not.
If none of the above fixes work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Discord app.
Now, in case this is happening to other users as well, chances are Discord is down at the moment or is undergoing an outage. You can check the current Discord server status right here.
When servers are down, the notifications may stop working, you won’t be able to react to messages and you might get logged out frequently. Wait for the issue to get resolved and things should get back to normal automatically.
