PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade was scheduled to be released in 2023 but now it has been offiically announced by Sony that the high-graphics game will be released in 2024 (Thanks, Gematsu).
Here’s what is shared in a PlayStation blog dated December 28, 2023, which also gives us a glimpse of games coming out in 2024.
While Stellar Blade is Korean developer Shift Up’s first console title, the adventure is looking promising indeed. Stellar Blade is an action-adventure game making its way to PlayStation 5 next year. This hack n’ slash title puts players in control of the stylish heroine Eve, as she takes on the Naytibas, a force ravaging Earth while surviving humans escape to an outer space colony.
Stellar Blade combines sharp action with stunning visuals and a mature narrative to create something all new. Players will have to master a balanced offense and defense to survive against hordes of out-of-this-world enemies.
What is the new Stellar Blade Release Date?
No reason was provided for Stellar Blade’s delay to 2024 and no exact release date or even a specific window was shared. As of now, we await an official announcement of the launch date from Sony or Shift Up. However, we might hear more about the release date in the first quarter of 2024.
Stellar Blade wasn’t always going to be a PlayStation exclusive
The game was initially titled “Project Eve” and wasn’t originally a PlayStation exclusive. A teaser trailer was released on April 4, 2019, that indicated that it will be released on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and PS4 Pro. Post that, in 2020, new gameplay was shown without mentioning the platforms the game was going to be released on. Finally, it was announced during a September 2021 PlayStation showcase, that Stellar Blade will be a PS5 exclusive, published by SIE.
The game is set in a post-apocalyptic future where Earth has been ravaged by an invasion by aliens called NA:tives. Humanity has been forced to take refuge elsewhere, but they’re determined to reclaim their home planet. Players take on the role of Eve, a skilled fighter who is sent back to Earth on a mission to retrieve a powerful weapon known as the Stellar Blade.
As you’ll see in the gameplay video, it features exciting fast-paced combat and epic boss fights. It’s a single-player-only experience and there is no word yet on whether the game will have any multiplayer features.
This isn’t the developer’s first foray into games. Shift Up has already seen success with their previous title Goddess of Victory: Nikke which is a mobile game. However, Stellar Blade will be the South Korean studio’s first step into AAA games. Destiny Child was another popular mobile game from the developer, but it is now terminated.
