Netflix Users Can Play 3 GTA Games For Free

Netflix is trying to level up its gaming section with the addition of the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy for free. As announced in Netflix’s blog, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition launches on the platform for all memberships on December 14, 2023, which will certainly drive up hype for the upcoming GTA 6 title and potentially increase Netflix subscribers. The trailer for the latter is going to be released in early December as well.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition will consist of the remasters of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas. While these games are originally from 2001, 2002, and 2004, Rockstar came out with a 2021 compilation of these games with a remastered version that includes visual improvements as well as gameplay upgrades.

Netflix mentions that these games will be available without any ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees. This saves players from spending an extra cost of around $11.99 which is the price of these games combined on your mobile device. You will be able to play these titles via Google Play or App Store via Netflix’s mobile app. The pre-registrations for these games have begun as well.

Netflix started its strategic push into video games in 2021 (just like Apple is facilitating the mobile releases of RE4 Remake, Death Stranding, and AC Mirage) and has grown its available game count over time – with more than 80 at the time of writing.

In a world with a lot of competition in the OTT and streaming space, having gaming as an option could ensure that Netflix stays at the forefront of the race.

Many former execs from major gaming companies like EA and Microsoft have transitioned to Netflix in hopes of growing its name in the sector.

Here’s what CNBC reports:

[bs-quote quote=”As of September 2023, Netflix’s games have been downloaded 70.5 million times, globally, according to data obtained from Apptopia. An estimated average of 2.2 million users played one or more of Netflix’s games per day, even as Netflix adds new games just about every month, according to Apptopia. Average daily users peaked at 2.7 million in January 2023, but dipped below 2 million between March and July, hitting a bottom of 1.45 million average daily users in March.

These numbers imply that less than 1% of Netflix’s 247.15 million subscribers play a game on a daily basis, even as the game library has tripled in its offerings in the last year.” style=”default” align=”center” color=”” author_name=”” author_job=”” author_avatar=”” author_link=””][/bs-quote]

Since such a small amount of users actually end up playing games on Netflix, maybe these iconic and best-selling GTA games will give the push the platform needs right now.
